My French Home

As a French native living in the United States, it’s essential for me to bring my roots into my space, creating a little piece of home that keeps me connected to my heritage. In this post, I’m excited to share how I infused my home with a touch of French flair.

My home is my sanctuary, the most important place where I find comfort and peace. From the décor to the ambiance, every detail reflects the love for my culture, helping me recreate a sense of belonging even when I’m miles away.

I like neutral tones for most of my major furnishings, creating a light and airy foundation for my home. I love swapping out accessories like vases, pillows, and throws to introduce pops of color. Shades of blue are my favorite, and I’ve woven them throughout my space for a soft, peaceful ambiance. I’m also drawn to the warmth of aged wood with its charming vintage character and adore incorporating cane accents, like in my classic French dinner chairs and on TV stand doors.

I chose a sectional with clean, modern lines to anchor the space and paired it with a sleek nesting coffee table featuring a marble-look top and brass accents for a contemporary touch. To balance the modern aesthetic, I added two traditional French armchairs, creating a harmonious blend of old and new that adds character and timeless elegance to the room.

To create a softer, more inviting atmosphere, I layered my window treatments with care. I started with white roller shades for privacy, added an embroidered sheer layer for delicate detail, and finished with light gray drapery panels accented by white pom-poms along the leading edge. I also love experimenting with textures through pillows, incorporating a mix of linen, velvet, and embroidered fabrics to bring depth and visual interest to the space.

Living Room & Dining Room Design

Since this isn’t my forever home and I’ve lived in several rentals, I enjoy designing spaces that are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing while staying budget-conscious. I prioritize creative, cost-effective updates that make a significant impact, ensuring my home feels inviting and stylish without overinvesting in a space I don’t own.

I selected a stunning flat-weave rug that effortlessly combines beauty and practicality. Its sleek design adds elegance to the space, while its low-maintenance nature ensures it remains both stylish and functional for everyday living.

I transformed the TV niche into a focal point by adding a wall covering featuring delicate cranes, which brings a touch of elegance and charm. To enhance the ambiance, I paired it with faux wisteria faux flowers and installed LED lighting for a soft, romantic glow. I completed the look by framing the surround with decorative trim, adding a polished and sophisticated finish.

I love incorporating candles throughout my home to create warm lighting and a cozy ambiance. To complement the mood, I style the space with a variety of accessories and greenery, adding layers of texture and charm like the delicate ostrich feathers and cherry blossom branches that both bring a soft and elegant vibe to the room. My favorite touch is an olive tree, which adds the iconic charm of the South of France.

I turned the unusually deep window niche in the dining area into a focal point. By embracing the natural light streaming through, I styled the space with glass dishes that catch and reflect the light, creating an airy, luminous effect.
